Common Signs of a Cockroach Infestation

Cockroach infestations are often well established before they are noticed. While occasional sightings may occur during the day, cockroaches are primarily nocturnal, meaning increased daytime activity can indicate a growing problem.

Common signs include live or dead cockroaches in kitchens, bathrooms, laundries, and cupboards, droppings that resemble small dark grains or coffee grounds, and a persistent musty odour in affected areas. Egg cases (oothecae) may also be found in hidden or undisturbed spaces.

If cockroaches continue to appear despite cleaning or surface sprays, it is likely the infestation has spread beyond visible areas and requires professional treatment.

Why DIY Cockroach Control Often Fails

Over-the-counter sprays and foggers may kill visible cockroaches but rarely eliminate the infestation. These products often fail to reach hidden harbourage areas such as wall voids, appliances, drains, and cabinetry where cockroaches breed and shelter.

Incorrect use of sprays can also cause cockroaches to scatter, spreading the infestation further throughout the property. Many species have developed resistance to common household products, reducing their effectiveness over time.

Professional cockroach control uses targeted, species-specific treatments designed to reach nesting sites and disrupt the breeding cycle. This approach provides longer-lasting control and significantly reduces the risk of reinfestation.
