Common Signs of an Ant Infestation
Ant infestations often begin subtly, with a small number of ants appearing around kitchens, pantries, bathrooms, or outdoor entry points. Over time, these sightings usually increase as ants establish scent trails between food sources and their nest.
Common signs include ants consistently appearing in the same areas, visible trails along walls, skirting boards, or benchtops, and increased activity around food, moisture, or waste. Outdoor nests near foundations, paving, garden beds, or retaining walls can also indicate a developing infestation.
If ants persist despite cleaning, surface sprays, or baiting, it is often a sign that the nest has not been effectively treated and professional control is required.
Why DIY Ant Control Often Fails
Many over-the-counter ant sprays and baits focus on killing visible ants rather than eliminating the colony. While this may provide temporary relief, it rarely addresses the nest, allowing the infestation to continue or return.
Some DIY products can also disrupt ant behaviour, causing colonies to split and form multiple nests, which can make the problem worse over time. Incorrect bait placement or unsuitable products may be ignored entirely by certain ant species.
Professional ant control targets the colony itself, using species-appropriate treatments designed to reach the nest and break the breeding cycle. This approach delivers more reliable, long-term results and reduces the likelihood of reinfestation.
